Moftakharzadeh, Seyed adel; Janmohammadi, Hossein; Taghizadeh, Akbar; Kianfar, Ruhollah; Olyayee, Majid Geshlog.
An experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of multi-enzyme in high and low levels of metabolizable energy (13.81 and 11.51 MJ kg-1 diet) on performance and energy utilization of broilers fed wheat-soybean meal diets from 0 to 21 days of age. Result showed that birds fed diets containing 11.51 MJ kg-1 consumed significantly (p < 0.05) more feed than diets containing 13.81 MJ kg-1, whereas daily gain and feed conversion ratio improved (p < 0.05) when enzyme was added to 11.51 MJ kg-1 diet. There was significant improvement in metabolizable energy, net energy for production, organic and dry matter digestibility in 0-21 when diets supplemented with enzyme (p < 0.05). Addition of enzyme to 11.51 MJ kg-1 containing diet significantly (p...

Energy analysis of three energy crops in Greece CIGR Journal
Gemtos, T. A.; Cavalaris, C.; Tagarakis, A.; Fountas, S..
To assess the potential of energy crops to provide a stock material for biofuel production three crops (rapeseed, sunflower and sweet sorghum) were studied in field experiments in Thessaly, Central Greece in 2007 and 2008.  The cropping activities were recorded.  Energy analysis was carried out to assess benefits from the crops.  Power requirements and energy consumption during field operations were measured directly using instrumented tractors.  Literature data was used for the energy sequestered to the inputs of the system (indirect energy).  Energy budgets were produced taking into account as output either the seed or including the stalks for the two oil seed crops.  The results showed that in all cases positive energy balances were achieved.  Analysis...

Energy partitioning and methane emission by sheep fed sorghum silages at different maturation stages Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Machado,F.S.; Rodríguez,N.M.; Gonçalves,L.C.; Rodrigues,J.A.S.; Ribas,M.N.; Pôssas,F.P.; Jayme,D.G.; Pereira,L.G.R.; Chaves,A.V.; Tomich,T.R..
Energy partitioning and methane production by sheep fed silages of three commercially available sorghum hybrids (BRS 610, BR 700 and BRS 655) harvested at three maturation stages (milk, soft dough and floury) were evaluated in open circuit respiration chambers. A complete randomized design was used in a 3 × 3 (hybrids × maturity stages) factorial arrangement, and the means were compared by the Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK) test (P<0.05). The intake of dry matter, digestible dry matter, gross energy, digestible energy and metabolizable energy were not affected by maturation stage, but were influenced by hybrid. The net energy intake was influenced by maturity and sorghum genetics. The fecal output represented the main source of energy loss, as percentage of...

Estimation of the total efficiency of metabolizable energy utilization for maintenance and growth by cattle in tropical conditions R. Bras. Zootec.
Henrique,Douglas Sampaio; Vieira,Ricardo Augusto Mendonça; Malafaia,Pedro Antônio Muniz; Mancini,Maurício Cordeiro; Gonçalves,André Luigi.
Data of 320 animals were obtained from eight comparative slaughter studies performed under tropical conditions and used to estimate the total efficiency of utilization of the metabolizable energy intake (MEI), which varied from 77 to 419 kcal kg-0.75d-1. The provided data also contained direct measures of the recovered energy (RE), which allowed calculating the heat production (HE) by difference. The RE was regressed on MEI and deviations from linearity were evaluated by using the F-test. The respective estimates of the fasting heat production and the intercept and the slope that composes the relationship between RE and MEI were 73 kcal kg-0.75d-1, 42 kcal kg-0.75d-1 and 0.37. Hence, the total efficiency was estimated by dividing the net energy for...

Net energy evaluation of feeds and determination of net energy requirements for pigs R. Bras. Zootec.
Noblet,Jean.
Feeds for pigs can be attributed different energy values according to, first, the step considered in energy utilization (DE: digestible energy, ME: metabolizable energy and NE: net energy) and, second, the method used for estimation at each step. Reference methods for evaluating DE content are based on in vivo digestibility measurements; indirect estimates of DE values are obtained from in vitro methods or prediction equations based on chemical characteristics. Methods have also been proposed for estimating urinary energy (and gas energy to a smaller extent) in order to calculate ME content from DE value. The NE values originate from energy balance studies (slaughter methods or, more commonly, indirect calorimetry measurements in respiration chambers) and...

Nutritional requirements of energy, protein and macrominerals for maintenance and weight gain of young crossbred Nellore × Holstein bulls on pasture R. Bras. Zootec.
Porto,Marlos Oliveira; Paulino,Mário Fonseca; Valadares Filho,Sebastião de Campos; Detmann,Edenio; Cavali,Jucilene; Sales,Maykel Franklin Lima; Valente,Ériton Egidio Lisboa; Couto,Victor Rezende Moreira.
The objective of this study was to estimate requirements of energy, protein and macrominerals of young Nellore/Holstein crossbreds bulls supplemented on pastures of Brachiaria decumbens Stapf. Thirty-five young bulls, at 8.53±0.18 months of age and with initial body weight of 230.6±6.1 kg were used. Ten animals were slaughtered as reference, in different weight range, and the other animals were slaughtered at the end of the experimental period. For estimate of net energy requirements for weight, a regression equation between log of retained energy (RE) and log of empty body weight gain (EBWG) was constructed. Net requirements of Ca, P, Mg, Na and K were determined by the equation Y' = a.b.Xb-1, in which a and b represent the intercept and the coefficient...
